Since today is the last full day off before Natey starts the summer program, my plan was to take the kids to the beach for the day. Well with Starsky in such rough shape, we skipped the beach and are hanging out at home so I can keep a close eye on my pup. He’s much improved today, even if he doesn’t exactly look it. His eyes are still pretty rough but his muzzle is much better. The scratching has improved greatly as well – he only seems to be scratching for the 15-20 minutes after I put the eye ointment on him. Then he settles down and sleeps. He’s been doing a lot of that and I certainly can’t blame him. Here are a few pics from today…

Lounging on the dining room floor while the kids played at the table.

Poor guy! He really hates the cone!

Closeup of his face. Like I said, his eyes are rough still but his muzzle is looking much better.

You can really tell in this pic how much better his muzzle looks!

Late last week, we noticed Starsky scratching at his face a little and didn’t really think much about it. By the time yesterday rolled around, it had become obvious that something was wrong. Our normal vet isn’t opened on the weekends, so we called Petsmart and got into the vets office there. We took him in this morning to be looked at and they were very nice and took good care of him. They actually kept him for several hours and sedated him, cleaned his muzzle and eyes really good, gave him a steroid shot, clipped his nails and put ointment on his eyes. When we picked him up, his muzzle already seemed a bit better. We got home this afternoon around 4p and he crashed hard after we put the cone on his head. He slept for a good 3 hours without moving. Tonight, while you can tell his face is still bothering him, we were able to keep him from doing any further scratching. Beginning tomorrow, we’re to give him oral steroids twice a day and then put this ointment on his eyes 3 times a day. Pray that it works because I hate seeing our pup so miserable!!

A photo I took yesterday afternoon.

Today we had the opportunity to take Starsky to visit the wonderful group of people from the Sato Second Chance Rescue out of Temple, NH. They had a Meet & Greet today here in town at Agway so we didn’t even have to travel far. Starsky absolutely loved the visit and all the attention that he received. He behaved perfectly and we all had a nice visit.

I just cannot say enough good things about this rescue! Every single person there was so friendly and was excited to learn how we’ve adjusted to having Starsky in our home/life. They couldn’t get over how much he’d grown since we rescued him in September. My jaw dropped when they told us he could continue to grow for another year!!!!! Uh oh!!!

Anyway, in honor of visiting with this fantastic group of people and seeing their most current rescues waiting to be adopted, I put together a little collage of Starsky. It’s really hard to tell his size difference but when we got him he was about 25 lbs. He now weighs somewhere in the vicinity of 50-55 lbs.
