Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiibbbbbs

My awesome in-laws bought this smoker for Joe this week.  There’s no need to discuss it…the pictures say it all.

Summer Is Almost Here!

We’ve had some incredibly warm weather here recently!  Today topped out at 92 degrees in the shade and way over 100 in the sun.  It was brutal!  Yesterday wasn’t quite as warm but still in the upper 80s.  Lately, I’ve really been thinking a lot about the girls starting kindergarten in the fall.  For the last 5 years, they’ve been with me all day, every day…with very few exceptions.  While I’m extremely excited about them starting school, I’ve recently realized that things around here will be changing pretty dramatically.  I’ve been trying to do more things with them…I guess to try and make our last few months special before they start school.

Joe spent the day at his parents yesterday so after I worked out and showered, I told the girls we were taking a ride.  We stopped at Subway and picked up a couple of subs and then I took them to the park in Peterborough.  We had our lunch there and then they played for a while.  Despite the scorching temps, they had a blast!

Wheelin’ Around

Well we did it.  We took the kids’ training wheels off of their bikes on Friday.  We’ve been talking about it for the last couple of months but we wanted to wait until Joe had enough time to help and that meant vacation!  I really thought Lexi would be the one to take right off and ride without an issue.  A few weeks ago, we found a 2 wheel Razor scooter at Target on clearance and we picked it up.  All we’d had up until then were 3 wheel scooters.  I was hesitant to let the kids have the Razor once we bought it but finally broke down and let them play with it.  Lexi was a natural.  Maddie did really well too.  Heck, even Nate did better than what I thought he would.  All 3 of them never cease to amaze me and I realize that I don’t give them enough credit.  Since Lexi was a natural with the scooter, I thought for sure she’d take right off on the bike.

Nope, it was Maddie.  Joe worked with her for a few minutes while I was working with Lexi.  When all of us got frustrated with each other, we switched it up.  I started working with Maddie and Joe with Lex.  It was about 2 minutes later, that I let go of Maddie’s seat and she was riding alone.  She was SOOOO excited and proud to be the one that figured it out first.  And then of course, you can imagine how frustrated and mad Lexi got that SHE still couldn’t do it.  She was whining, wanted ME to help her since I’d been the one helping Maddie when she figured it out…she must have figured I had the magic touch. LOL  It took her about 30 more minutes to really get the hang of it.  And then Natey.  He’s not a big fan of his bike to begin with…not sure why, it’s just not his favorite thing to do outside.  He’d rather swing or draw with chalk or ride the scooter.  But we worked with him some too.  Natey has some balance issues so I wasn’t sure if riding without the training wheels was even something within his scope.  But he surprised me and did fairly well.  He tends to forget to pedal and then tips over but he’s quite good at catching himself. LOL  And for some reason he has an aversion to turning his wheels…he just goes straight.  And that causes issues once he hits the grass and then the big hill at the front of the yard.  But overall, within 5 minutes of riding, he was done.

As you can imagine, we’ve had crashes.  LOTS of crashes.  At one point, Maddie had bandaids (EARNED bandaids, not just little scratches) on both elbows and both knees.  One of them was pretty good – blood actually running down her arm.  But they’re tough and as soon as the bandaids are on, they’re back on the bikes and riding!!

Anyway, we didn’t take any pics on Friday when we first took the training wheels off…too much going on.  So Joe brought out the camera and him and I took turns taking some photos.
