A Trip To Kohls and My Scores at Target!

Oh Kohls, how I love thee!   The girls and I made a trip to Kohls yesterday to return an outfit that we were very disappointed in.  And were SO excited to learn that they had just put almost all of their sets onto the 50-75% off rack!  The girls each got a new outfit – cost me $15.  They woke up quite cheery this morning and for once didn’t lag getting dressed.  Since Maddie’s outfit is mostly black, when she asked what shoes to wear with it, I was stumped because she didn’t have a black pair of shoes.  We recently got Lexi a pair at Target (clearance for $4) but Lexi’s foot is a size bigger so she couldn’t even borrow those.  When I mentioned to Joe I should’ve bought Maddie a pair, he just rolled his eyes and told me I should run right out today and get her a pair.  Well, I obliged…with bells on.  But alas, the $4 clearance shoes that we got for Lexi were gone so we rummaged through the clearance section and found a super cute pair of black boots for $12.  SOLD!  Then Lexi decided she “neeeeeeeded” another pair of shoes.  I told her if she could find something on the clearance rack for less than $5 we could get them.  Alexis Julia is MY child…100%.  She’s a shoe hound.  We spent almost 30 minutes looking through 2 aisles of shoes.  We looked at flats, heels, boots, slips on…you name it, we looked at it.  She finally settled on a pair of black patent dress shoes that cost me a whopping $2.48.  It was such a good deal that I snuck a pair in the cart in Maddie’s side for school in the fall.  And while waiting for Lexi to pick out her shoes, I found these super cute brown boots with buckles on them for $4.98.  SCORE!  Bought the girls each a pair for school next fall.

Since losing weight, the winter coat that I’ve had for the last 5 or 6 years is way too big.  I kind of confiscated Joe’s wool coat that he got at Old Navy last year.  He rarely wears it and I was desperate for a coat that fit.  It worked in a pinch but it was such thick wool that I had trouble bending my arms to drive!  So I’ve been on the lookout for a coat…and since they’re bringing out the swimwear in the stores (WTF is up with that?), I’ve been watching sale racks.  I took a peek at the coats on the clearance rack at Target and was pleasantly surprised to find one I liked.  Tried it on…and it fit pefectly.  Then I noticed that it said “maternity”.  I went back and forth with myself on whether to get it or not…and in the end decided to get it.  I mean, really does it matter that it says maternity on the tag?  Nope, it fit me…it’s really nice and best yet, it only cost me $15.98 (retailed for $59.99).   I was also debating on a red wool coat…I liked it a lot!   And the kicker - it was only $10!  I passed on it and now I’m having buyers remorse big time!!!

Bring It On!

We’ve lived in this house now for almost 5 years.  It was new when we bought it so it’s very well insulated and doesn’t really let in much cold air.  That said, our bedroom gets mighty chilly during the day.  We keep the thermostat set at 67 during the daytime and since the girls and I are in the living room all day and we have the shades open most days, the heat doesn’t run very much.  Not a big deal in the majority of the house…stays pretty warm.  But our bedroom, barely gets to 63 or 64.

Last winter, Joe and I talked about getting an electric blanket or a heated mattress pad.  When we looked into it, winter was just about over and with a king sized electric blanket/mattress pad running around $140 or so, we decided to wait until this winter to revisit the thought.  A week or so before Christmas, we had a really cold snap that left our bedroom somewhere around 60 degrees and after crawling into the ice cold sheets a few nights in a row, I started searching for an electric blanket or mattress pad.  As I said, they’re pricey…that hadn’t changed much at all.  I decided to check out Linens ‘N Things online.  Yes, LNT went out of business…but are now dealing online only.  I was elated to find a heated mattress pad for a king sized bed for a mere $62.  Quick discussion with Joe and it was purchased.

Christmas quickly came and went and realized that we still hadn’t received it.  Joe did some digging around (which I guess we should’ve done first) and found that LNT is now basically a go-between.  And that the number one complaint from customers is that it takes FOREVER to get what you ordered.  Sure enough, it took 3 weeks to get it.

Boy was it worth the wait.  I crawled into bed last night and smiled to myself as my feet were nice and toasty warm.  Yes, heated mattress pad…I love you.

Textures On Photos

Last night as I was surfing one of my favorite blogs, The Pioneer Woman, I came across a post that was made about adding texture to photos.  I was intrigued.  It added a depth to the photos that I hadn’t really noticed before.  So I was on a mission.  I found a FREE Photoshop action by MCP Actions that would add a texture, easily, to a photo.  I downloaded it and today have finally managed to play with it a bit.  There wasn’t any instruction that went along with it but it didn’t take too much to figure out (and for my simple mind, that must mean that it’s very simple).

Anyway, I spent a few minutes today messing around with some photos and these were my favorites!
